In this season of physical and emotional upheavals, it’s imperative to build a vigorous immune system. Where does it start? Gut health has supreme influence on the digestive process, immunity, and our ability to cope with stress and anxiety. Gut health is the cornerstone to healthy nervous and immune systems.
Anxiety can stop us in our tracks and keep us from experiencing the exquisite beauty of life. How does gut health fit into the anxiety equation? Upwards towards 80% of our relaxing neurotransmitters are synthesized in our small intestine and released into the bloodstream. The nervous system is responsible for our moods and thoughts. Emotional health, therefore, is a function of nerve health and is married to the immune system. The digestive system, including the liver, is home to many immune activities.
To achieve good gut health, we heal and feed the gut with food, herbs, probiotics, exercise, and relaxation techniques. While it’s well known that fermented foods can assist in the health of the gut, however, there can be too much of a good thing. Learn how overuse of fermented foods can cause histamine reaction leading to inflammation in many folks. We’ll discuss the advantages of fermented foods and appropriate amounts to utilize.
Students will harvest Oregon Grape and make remedies to support gut, immune, and nerve health.
Make and Take:
- Triple extraction reishi mushroom tincture to be finished at home.
- Mushroom miel
- Garlic Rosemary Lovage vinegar
- Oregon Grape Tincture
- Fermented cortido
Students will take home tools in their herbal and self-care tool belt with a wealth of easy to understand information that is effortless to implement into daily life.
What To Bring:
- 1 pint (16oz) jar, 2 half pint (8oz) jars, 2 (4oz) jars with plastic lids if possible. These can be found at Fred Meyer, Ace Hardware, online, etc. Please bring these exact sizes as I have a limited supply of herbs on hand to share with everyone.
- Cutting board, chopping knife, paring knife, and scissors
- 4 ounces honey and TWO small spoons for obtaining mushroom powder and another for stirring
- 1/2 pint 100 proof alcohol of choice
- 1/2 pint 190 proof alcohol – a must!
- Medium to large bowl
- 1/4 small cabbage, 2 carrots, 1 very small onion
- Optional small amount of fresh oregano and chili flakes
- 1 bulb of garlic
- 1 half pint apple cider vinegar
- 3 teaspoons sea salt or pink Himalayan mineral salt
- Camp chair
- Lunch and beverage
- Yoga mat or blanket
